Meet Fred. She is an incredible dog, 9 years old, loving, devoted, and extremely smart. She is very typical of the breed in that she is incredibly sweet tempered, LOVES attention, thinks she's a lap dog, is great with kids, and is slightly neurotic. She is aging very well other than a few creaks and a gray muzzle. She has a lot of energy and loves long walks. Her hearing isn't as acute as it once was - which has turned out to be good as she no longer reacts when the doorbell on the TV rings. Fred has always been more of a people's dog than a dog's dog. I would take her to the dog park for hours at a time, and though she would interact with the other dogs, she was most content staying around the people. Everyone in my neighborhood knows and loves her because she's such a sweetheart. Several years ago I even worked with her as a "therapy" dog where I took her to retirement and convalescent homes to visit the patients. Of course she loved the attention and the patients loved her temperament.When she was younger, she never had any problems with other dogs. However, as she's grown older, she's gotten crankier around other dogs. While most of the time she is fine, sometimes - whether it's around food or being possessive of her human interaction - she can get feisty. She doesn't attack physically as much as she does by barking (though it does sound vicious). Since it's always been stopped whenever it has happened, I don't know how far it would go, but I would err on the side of keeping her away from other dogs since she has become unreliable. She is one of the most loyal, devoted, sweet and doting dogs I've ever known and I am committed to finding a good home for her as she grows older. She's in terrific shape and, with the exception of a gray muzzle, she definitely doesn't look or act her age.
